The feeder does not disintegrate on its own; food is released as the fish nibble on the block. If there is food left, you can leave the block in the tank and resume normal feeding regimens. 

For fish used to eating at the surface (top/mid feeders), try breaking off a bit of the gel block prior to dropping it into the aquarium. Once the block has settled at the bottom, release the remaining portion directly over where the block is positioned so that fish can locate the temporary food source.
